WHAT IS SCALEFORM GFX LICENSE
"The Scaleform GFx license is included at no cost for all UE3 licensees and UDK users (both commercial and non-commercial). The Scaleform GFx license is included at ZERO cost for all UE3 and UDK based applications on all platforms supported by Epic."

"Just to clarify, UDK users do not pay any additional fees to use Scaleform for commercial or non-commercial projects. Now what Autodesk/Scaleform and Unity work out.who knows.

Autodesk/Scaleform is getting some money for Premium Support as well. It does appear to be free for both commercial and non-commercial, it looks like the fee for commercial is covered when your license the UDK for $99. In the end we won't know what the license details etc are until we hear about them which has not happened so it makes no sense theory crafting new rumors But Unity with the flat 1 time fee is in a far worse situation as it neither generates ongoing money nor does a one time fee take care of multiple projects using it (where as the share automatically does)
WHAT IS SCALEFORM GFX FULL
Scaleform might have a chance though as Autodesk might be interested to get more of their other technology which is every less commonly used than Beast and Umbra integrated into Unity to sell more of their own tech that is required to deliver stuff to those or offer editor to feed it like it is the case on Substance (which has the exposure problem of Umbra and Beast too) and offer Scaleform along a larger deal with other benefits and consequences to make it appealing.Īnd UDK costs so much more than unity on any project that makes money on a reasonable level (there are some basic calcs that show that UDK on a game that pays a team of 4 people within less than a year costs more than a full 'all pro' set for the whole team) so they can easily direct part of the share you pay Epic to Autodesk for the Scaleform license. Scaleform on the other side is like Bink, they don't need exposure, they are used in dozens and dozens of games every year and have exposure everywhere, this makes it far less interesting for them to be integrated in a 'not nearly as lucrative offering'. Beast at the time of the Deal was not autodesk technology and umbra isn't either.Īlso both technologies have some basic, higher level need to get exposure as both can be happy to be used in 2-3 AA+ titles a year if at all.
